The SlizovskiyLab is currently seeking to hire:
Graduate / Postdoctoral students: Admission to LIDARR is competitive and based on a clearly demonstrated alignment with our research focus. Successful applicants typically have strong foundational experience in areas such as bioinformatics, computational biology, pathogenomics, and / or epidemiology with a concentration on biostatistics, along with a track record of publication in peer-reviewed, globally indexed journals. Having strengths in any of these areas in addition to a clear track record of scientific writing / communication are key indicators of readiness for doctoral-level work in a high-intensity research environment. While candidates with a background in professional medical training (i.e. Veterinarians, Physicians, Dentists, Nurses, etc.) are highly encouraged to apply, they must still possess some background in applied quantitative sciences.
Applicants at the M.Sc. level may not yet have met the above-stated expectations but should still show clear evidence of technical skills, research potential, and a strong interest in the lab’s focus areas. Those still building relevant experience may wish to explore additional coursework, research training programs, or mentored collaborative projects, before applying.
Undergraduate research students: Our lab has limited availabilities for undergradue students (i.e no more than 2-3 undergraduates in a given year), and opportunities are reserved for highly motivated, inquisitive, and hard-working researchers who are comfortable with meeting weekly deliverables and overcoming challenges in a self-directed manner. As >15 h of work per week is typically required, we do not encourage first-year undergraduates to apply. Those selected for work in the lab are given a 1-semester trial period before discussing the possibilities of summer research fellowships or paid hourly work. Undergraduates will have the opportunity to participate in a weekly lab meeting and / or mentorship with other graduate students, post-docs, research staff and faculty in the course of their work.
Overall expectations: Candidates should demonstrate consistency in work, with high attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. Good communication skills are very important. Work in the wet lab will require completion of basic biosafety training, and all researchers will require completing university-based research ethics and other required training before starting work.
For more information: If interested, please email a CV, current unofficial transcript or the transcript of the most recent completed academic program, short letter of interest, contact details of 2+ references, and 2+ examplars of science writing to Dr. Ilya Slizovskiy (islizovs@purdue.edu). We apologize in advance, but due to the high density of applicant inquiries, individuals not meeting the above minimum expectations will not receive a response to their inquiry.
